Educational Wind-Powered Strandbeest

This compact Strandbeest model spans 20 cm in length and 13 cm in width, standing 11 cm tall at its rear and reaching 17 cm at the highest point of its propeller. Constructed from durable hard plastic and solid wood, it delivers lasting performance through multiple builds and outdoor use. As a miniature version of Theo Jansen’s Animaris Ordis Parvus, it walks using only wind energy — captured by its large-diameter propeller and transmitted through a series of interconnected mechanical linkages. It activates with even light breezes, or can be started manually by spinning the propeller or blowing gently. Designed for real-world interaction, it rotates when meeting water and ceases motion in strong winds — encouraging observation, hypothesis testing and iterative adjustment during play.
